1.33 ~ A Tribute to the Golden AgeThis is my response to any theory that movies have improved. Film was a stronger and superior art form before film scholarship, the 'art film,' film schools, and post-modern self-consciousness. Cinema was a perfect and complete medium by the late 1940s -- encompassing image, sound, color, montage, mise-en-scene, every narrative genre, documentary, animation and all manner of abstraction. This was the era of the true masters; Buñuel, Ozu, Renoir, Hitchcock, Lang, Hawks, Ford, Welles, Cocteau, Powell, etc.
