This short film is a study for a feature I’ve written and hope to make someday. It’s about the role of art in our lives; how it strengthens character and nurtures the spirit. I believe this idea is taken for granted – like air and water – because our digital world is saturated with audio/visual content; making it hard to distinguish art from disposable entertainment, advertising, pornography and propaganda. The ideas voiced by the hero of the film are derived from a handful of renowned art critics I admire, including Kenneth Clark, Robert Hughes and Camille Paglia. Starring as Christian is Matthew Arnett, a dedicated and extremely gifted actor who played the fanatical cult-member Henry in both The Surfer and In Vacuo. I’ve dreamed of him playing this part for two years straight, and it’s extremely satisfying to see it finally happen. |
